Uda Uni (Brother and
Sister),
It feels as though the Eid al-Fitr festivities have only just passed, yet the echoes of the Eid al-Adha are already beginning to resonate. Between these two great holidays, lies a long-awaited spiritual journey: the Hajj pilgrimage.
For many in Indonesia,
this is more than just a physical trip; it is the fulfillment of a longing
nurtured through years of waiting. This moment is deeply emotional, especially
for those who have queued for years, holding their intentions close to their
hearts. Perhaps Uda Uni, or a loved one at home, are among the fortunate ones
called to the House of God this year.
Departure Schedule from Tabing Hajj Dormitory
The first step toward
the Holy Land officially began on Thursday (April 23), as the Batch 1 group
entered the Tabing Hajj Dormitory in Padang, West Sumatra. There was a slight
adjustment to the schedule; the group’s flight was moved up to Friday early
morning (April 24) at precisely 01:00 AM local time, departing via Minangkabau
International Airport (BIM).
This departure marks
the start of a massive operation for West Sumatra Hajj this year, serving over
5,300 pilgrims across 14 combined batches from West Sumatra and Bengkulu
provinces.
Pilgrim
Data: Dominated by Women
An extraordinary energy
has been felt since the preparation phase, particularly because this first
group is dominated by women. Based on data shared by the Governor of West
Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah, here is the breakdown:
Female Pilgrims: 232
Male Pilgrims: 143
Total Group: 393 (including dedicated medical and administrative officials)

While seeing off the
pilgrims, Governor Mahyeldi expressed high appreciation for the seamless
inter-agency collaboration. "We convey our deepest appreciation and
support to the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, who have meticulously prepared every
detail for our citizens," he remarked warmly.
Premium
Facilities: A "Five-Star" Experience
The year 2026 brings
new standards of service in West Sumatra, praised as being equivalent to a
five-star hotel. At the dormitory, pilgrims are treated to modern comforts:
Maximum Hygiene: The
use of high-quality disposable linens.
Memories: Free photo
booths for pilgrims to capture a final moment with family before departing.
Senior-Friendly
Technology: The most significant innovation is the Ambulance Lift provided by
Garuda Indonesia (the national flag carrier). This facility allows pilgrims in
wheelchairs to enter the aircraft cabin levelly and comfortably, eliminating
the need for manual stairs.
One-Stop
Service and the Legendary Rendang
Furthermore, the
administrative process is now much more streamlined through a one-stop service
system. Health checks, immigration, and the distribution of the Nusuk Card (the
essential digital permit for holy sites) are all completed in one place.
Uniquely, this long
journey still tastes like home. The catering menu features the legendary
Rendang -- the world-famous slow-cooked beef originating from West Sumatra,
Indonesia -- specifically prepared to soothe any homesickness during the long
stay in Saudi Arabia.
Tips
for Families
For Uda Uni that are
planning to see off your family, please monitor local traffic. The area around
the dormitory, and the airport road is expected to be very crowded until early
morning.
